This trek closely resembles Tsum valley and Manaslu Trek, but without the physical challenge of crossing Larkya-La. Instead, the focus is on the very scenic and culturally unique Tsum Valley. Your adventure starts out with two nights in Kathmandu, where you may wish to visit Durbar Square or other sites of interest. We will carefully review all the gear and clothing needed for a safe and enjoyable trek, and also provide you with passes required for visitors to this restricted region. We then drive to Arughat, where the actual trek begins. Alongside (and above!) the Buri Gandaki River, we will find ourselves at times hiking on ledges carved out of nearly vertical walls above the gorge, so there will still be no shortage of physical challenge and excitement.
As we walk the trails, we come across areas speckled with creative shorten lined with Mani walls and carved with artworks of deities inscribed with prayers that seem to be odes to the gods for departed souls of loved ones. The local folks are of Tibetan lineage and practice the ancient Bon religion. As you enter the Upper Tsum valley (a part of the Inner Himalaya) which starts from Chokhangparo, the congenial local folks welcome you with traditional Tibetan Chiya (butter tea) and a local meal cooked in a natural hearth that's cosy to be around, especially in the winters. This Valley is tremendously rich in cultural possessions and some lucrative deals are sometimes struck up here with the local folks by impressed trekkers looking for a memento to take home.
Upon entering the fascinating Tsum Valley at Philim, we will begin to experience the cultural and religious traditions maintained by the Tsompa residents of this special place for so many centuries. We will visit a number of gompas (monasteries), and also enjoy the amazing Himalayan scenery surrounding Tsum Valley, which has kept it so isolated from the rest of the world until very recently. After a full week's encounter with this gorgeous, serene Valley and its amazing people, we head back to Arughat. Returning by bus to Kathmandu, we will enjoy a farewell dinner on the eve of our departure for home.
