About Trip

This trek, combining both rural and dramatic Himalayan scenery along with diverse cultural contacts, is one of the most popular treks in the Helambu and Langtang regions, which lie north of Kathmandu, between Kathmandu and Tibet. It is also a physically challenging trek, which includes the climb up to Tserko-Ri as well as the crossing of the pass called Laurebinayak-La. After two days of sightseeing and trek preparation in Kathmandu, we drive north to Syabrubesi.  Thus, this trek begins just like other treks of this region.  We spend two nights at Kyangjin Gompa, where we can hike up to spectacular Tserko-Ri. Then, after leaving Lama Hotel we switch trails to access the sacred Gosainkunda Lakes via Sing Gompa.  This gorgeous lake is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, many of whom are drawn here during the full moon festival in August.

We then cross over Laurebinayak (4608mt/15,120ft), which like all Himalayan passes offers a thrilling panorama.  Our journey now brings us out of the Langtang Region and into the Helambu Region.  We overnight at several varied villages, including Ghopte, the much larger Malemche Gaon, then Tarke Ghyang, and finally Sermathang.  From there we trek to Malemche Pul Bazaar, from which we drive back to Kathmandu.  This fascinating route will have brought us into contact with a number of different ethnic groups, including the Sherpas, Tamangs, Yolmus and Bhotias.  We will also have experienced some of Nepal's most thrilling Himalayan vistas, all within the short space of seventeen days, and all within a day's drive of Kathmandu.  Our adventure ends with a farewell dinner back in Kathmandu, after which we fly home, bringing countless photos and unforgettable memories.
