About Trip

This challenging trek offers the best of the "classic" trek to EBC and Kala Patthar, combined with the heightened thrill of reaching two additional enthralling Himalayan viewpoints: the peak called Gokyo-Ri and the famous pass called Cho-La.  Like the shorter EBC treks, we begin with the exciting flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and then trek north to Namche Bazaar for two days of acclimatization. We then leave the popular EBC route, instead of heading north to the Gokyo Lakes, Gokyo, and the ascent to Gokyo-Ri.

This trek offers the best that the Khumbu Region has to offer: thrilling Himalayan vistas,  exposure to Buddhist and Sherpa traditions, a visit to the less-traveled Gokyo Valley, spectacular lakes and glaciers, and superb views of the world-famous Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam peaks, among many others.
In addition to these peaks (among the very highest on the planet), you will be astounded by the magnificence of Towache and Cholatse, two that most visitors to Nepal will never even have heard of.  Following the course of the Dudh Kosi River north, we will pass through Dhole and Machermo on the way to Gokyo village, set along the shores of beautiful Dudh Pokhari Lake.

After summiting Gokyo-Ri and enjoying the superb 360-degree panorama it offers, we head east through Dragnag to thrilling Cho-La Pass.  The trek then joins with the more popular trail coming up from Namche, at Lobuche.  We are now within easy reach of Gorak Shep, from which famed Kala Patthar and EBC are just a half-day hike away.
This trek combines access to less-traveled paths that bring us to unforgettable vistas, along with the pleasure of meeting trekkers from all over the world heading for famed EBC and Kala Patthar. The return is through Pheriche, where one can hear the daily talk offered by the doctors at the Himalayan Rescue Association there, and famed Tengboche, where one can visit the historic Buddhist monastery and may even attend a Buddhist puja ceremony. Above-average fitness is required along with a heightened spirit of adventure, but the rewards and memories will last a lifetime.

Trip Note

Flight Delays …A possibility to keep In Mind When Planning

For treks that start in Lukla, we normally book flights between Kathmandu (KTM) and Lukla (LUK) on Twin Otter planes. While flight service between the two airports is fairly reliable, at times the flight schedule can be disturbed and flights cancelled because of weather or mechanical problems.  If this happens after your trek and you would miss your international flight out of Kathmandu, Adventure Club Trek can charter a helicopter on your behalf and at your expense, so that you do not miss your international flight.

We accept US cash, travelers' checks, and credit cards (Visa and Master Card only). Upon payment to our Kathmandu office we will provide you with a receipt, which you can use to receive reimbursement if you have a travel insurance policy.  Depending upon the number of passengers, a helicopter flight will cost at least US$500, and up to US$3,500.

NOTE: Your safety is of the utmost concern whilst you are travelling with Adventure Club Trek. We will make every effort possible to follow the original itinerary but we reserve the right to change that itinerary if a segment of it becomes a safety issue. Certain mountain regions are remote, natural disasters can happen, weather conditions can decline and there can be illness or an injury. To avoid dangerous situations we may occasionally have to make changes to the itinerary to ensure everyone’s safety. That having been said, Adventure Club Trek will strive to provide you with the best possible trekking experience and to keep your safety our number one priority. In case, the flight delay/cancellation happens at the start of trip and it goes so long that it disturbs your onward travel schedule, you are free to choose an alternative trip: such a trek in the AnnapurnaLangtang, or any other regions.

Pre-Trip Meeting

Prior to all the treks and expeditions, Adventure Club Trek hosts a pre-trip meeting in Kathmandu. The primary purpose of meeting is to provide an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about the forthcoming trek and to introduce other team members. The meeting covers topics as diverse as personal equipment and acclimatization and usually involves a hike and some skills training. Pre-trip meeting is very important in order to have a better preparation of the trekking.
