The road to Shigatse is scenic crossing two high passes Karo La and Kampa La. Shigatse, the second largest city after Lhasa, houses the Tashilhunpo Monastery. Other attraction includes ancient monasteries like Sera and Drepung, two of three great Gelung universities gompas. Drive to the holy lake of Yamdrok Tso and Nam Tso crossing high passes. There is a road that takes you directly to the base camp from where you can enjoy the majestic north face of Everest avoiding all the trekking hassle.
