Journey to Druk Yul Tour

About Trip

This journey takes you to five distinct and breathtakingly beautiful valleys with lush green paddy fields, incredible fortress-like monasteries known as Dzongs and gently flowing clean rivers. During the journey, you will get inspiringly beautiful glimpses of some of the well known Himalayan peaks in the last Shangri-La on the planet. The tour also includes a visit to the Ta-Dzong, the National Museum (closed on Sundays and Mondays), which was originally the watchtower of the Paro Dzong and stands imposingly on a hillock overlooking the Paro valley. A short visit here gives us an idea of the cultural and ecological richness of Bhutan. A visit to the Paro Rimpung Dzong, the ‘fortress of the heap of jewels’ is also included.

The main highlight of the tour is the hike to one of Bhutan’s most venerated pilgrimage sites, the Taktshang Gomba, commonly referred to as the ‘Tiger’s Nest’. Resting at an altitude of 900m above the valley, Taktshang is an architectural wonder and the spectacular four-hour walk will be the most overwhelming experience ever. The tour extends to Drukgyel Dzong (the ruined fortress -17 km from the town), built in 1647 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate his victory over the Tibetans in 1644. Drukgyel means ‘fortress of the victorious Drukpas’. The Dzong, with a delightful village nestling at its foot, and the Mount Jumolhari  (Alt 24,000 feet) appearing as a backdrop on a fine weather day is an awe-inspiring sight. It’s worth exploring this delightful village on foot. The tour finally concludes in the capital of Thimphu with some thrilling sightseeing of the library, zoo & some famous zombies. A stroll through the quiet clean streets of Thimphu is what most visitors do when wrapping up their trips in the land of the Thunder Dragon.

Does this sound too much for a 5 days tour to Bhutan??? If you feel it is then you are going to enjoy a whirlwind trip that you’ve probably never experienced before…
