The magnificent views of the Annapurna peaks and Mt. Machapuchhre throughout the trek make the route even more scenically pleasing. Overcome the infamous steep steps to reach Ulleri, enjoy trekking through the rhododendron forests on the way to Ghorepani and relish the magnificent panoramic view of the Annapurna massif, Dhaulagiri peaks, and Mt. Machapuchhre (Fishtail) among a dozen or more other peaks from Poon Hill, one of the best vantage points in the region.
Next, in the Annapurna Base Camp Heli Trek, we trek through Machapuchhre Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp where you can get up close views of the Annapurna I, III and South along with other mountains like Machapuchhre, Hiuchuli, and Gangapurna. We take an early morning flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu. It is a scenic 25 minutes flight. From Pokhara, we drive for an hour and a half to Nayapul. We start our trek from Nayapul on a rocky path alongside the banks of Modi Khola (River) to reach Birethanti and consequently Tikhedunga, We continue on the trail through the village following Burundi Khola’s north bank. Gradually, the trail ascends up to Hille valley at 1,495m and a short climb later we reach our destination for the day, Ulleri. At 2050 m/6725 ft.
After breakfast, we ascend to the Ghorepani village via stone stairs. As we are ascending, we admire the spectacular scenery as Annapurna South looms large, coming and going from our view. We pass waterfalls, tiny villages, and several tea-houses before reaching Ghorepani. We stop at the higher part of the Ghorepani village that offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains including Annapurna South and Nilgiri mountains. The village has small shops that sell local products such as handbags and crafts. Overnight in Ghorepani.
We head out to Poon Hill before the dawn breaks to catch in a romantic setting of shooting stars in the sky above us. Our goal is to reach the top in time to enjoy the golden hour in the Himalaya. At the top, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the full Annapurna massif including other mountains like Dhaulagiri and Machapuchhre among others. 2-3 hours of walk from Sinuwa brings us to Kuldighar passing Bamboo and Dovan along the way. We head a little ahead to see the forest clearing from where the path goes steeply downwards onto the rocky bank to the end of the gorge. The path ahead is filled with many waterfalls, we also we pass by a little shrine opposite the gorge. As we close in on Deurali, at about 3,000m, the forest becomes sparse and the surrounding more spacious. Overnight in Deurali.
Today is one of the highlights of the trip as our trail passes through Machapuchhre Base Camp (technically not a base camp at Mt. Machhapuchre is climbable) and lands us at the Annapurna Base Camp (4,310m). The other highlight of the trip is the helicopter ride from the Annapurna Base Camp to Pokhara. We board the helicopter early in the morning and head back to Pokhara. Prior to all the treks and expeditions, Adventure Club Trek hosts a pre-trip meeting in Kathmandu. The primary purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about the forthcoming trek and to introduce other team members. The meeting covers topics as diverse as personal equipment and acclimatization and usually involves a hike and some skills training. Pre-trip meeting is very important in order to have a better preparation of the trekking.
